Internal Warehouse Refurbishment in Cirencester

Shier Coatings completed a full internal warehouse refurbishment for a commercial unit in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

Years of dirt, staining and heavy use had left the internal blockwork and concrete floor looking tired and unsuitable for the unit’s next stage of operation.

The project combined professional blockwork spraying with multi-stage diamond floor grinding and polyurethane concrete sealing. Completing both elements created a brighter, cleaner and more modern commercial working environment.

The Problem

The internal blockwork had accumulated dirt, staining and general contamination over several years. Its dark and tired appearance reduced light reflection and made the entire warehouse feel dated.

The existing concrete floor also contained surface contamination, worn areas and remnants of previous coatings. It required full mechanical preparation before a new protective sealer could be applied.

The client required a practical refurbishment that would:

- Brighten the complete warehouse

- Improve the appearance of the internal blockwork

- Protect the existing concrete floor

- Create a cleaner and more professional working environment

- Provide a durable finish suitable for commercial use

The Warehouse Refurbishment

Our work included:

- Internal jet washing of the blockwork

- Removal of built-up dirt and surface contamination

- Professional masking of floors, services and fixtures

- Spraying the main blockwork in Pure White

- Installing a 1.5-metre Anthracite Grey feature band

- Mechanical diamond grinding of the concrete floor

- Multiple metal-bond grinding stages

- Ceramic refinement of the concrete

- Application of two coats of water-based polyurethane sealer

Internal Blockwork Preparation

Correct preparation was essential before the blockwork could be resprayed.

The internal walls were thoroughly jet-washed to remove accumulated dirt, dust and contaminants. Floors, services, equipment and permanent fixtures were then carefully masked and protected before spraying commenced.

Completing this preparation helped achieve an even and professional sprayed finish throughout the warehouse.

Pure White Blockwork Spraying

The main blockwork was sprayed in Pure White to brighten the warehouse and improve light reflection throughout the building.

Spray application allowed the coating to reach the texture and joints within the blockwork while producing a more consistent finish than conventional brush or roller application.

A 1.5-metre feature band was then installed in Anthracite Grey. This created a practical, modern contrast at the lower section of the walls while helping disguise everyday marks in the busiest areas of the warehouse.

Multi-Stage Concrete Floor Grinding

The existing concrete slab was prepared using industrial diamond grinding equipment.

The grinding process consisted of:

- Two passes using 25-grit metal-bond diamonds

- Two passes using 50-grit metal-bond diamonds

- Final refinement using 100-grit ceramic tooling

The initial grinding stages removed old coatings, surface contamination and imperfections. The additional passes progressively refined the concrete and prepared it for the protective polyurethane sealer.

This controlled, multi-stage process produced a considerably cleaner and more consistent surface than a basic single-pass floor grind.

Water-Based Polyurethane Floor Sealing

Following the grinding and refinement process, the concrete floor received two coats of water-based polyurethane sealer.

The sealer protects the prepared concrete while retaining its natural industrial appearance. It also produces a durable, low-sheen finish suitable for warehouses and commercial premises.

The sealed surface is easier to clean and maintain than untreated concrete and helps reduce dusting from the slab during everyday use.

The Finished Result

The combination of Pure White blockwork, the Anthracite Grey feature band and the refined concrete floor completely transformed the internal warehouse.

The completed refurbishment provides:

- A brighter and more modern working environment

- Improved light reflection throughout the building

- Clean and professionally sprayed blockwork

- A practical Anthracite Grey lower feature band

- A refined, low-sheen concrete floor

- Improved protection against general wear

- Easier cleaning and ongoing maintenance

- A professional finish suitable for commercial use

By completing the wall spraying and concrete floor refurbishment as one coordinated project, Shier Coatings delivered a consistent transformation throughout the entire commercial unit.
